the first-ever White House Water Summit, Walker said that Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) is expanding its partnership with Project WET to train employees to become water conservation ambassadors and empower them to educate their local communities about the importance of saving water.Levi Strauss & Co. Senior Director of Global Policy and Advocacy Anna Walker pledged that Levi’s will provide Project WET water-education training to 100 percent of the company’s corporate employees by 2020. Project WET Senior Vice President John Etgen also spoke at the summit—which was held on World Water Day—discussing the importance of water education in addressing complex water issues around the world. The Project WET Foundation and LS&Co. have been working together since 2014 to develop customized curriculum to teach LS&Co. employees and local communities about the impact their clothing has on the planet, and changes individuals can make in their daily lives to conserve water.
LS&Co.’s pledge to water education and Project WET is incorporated within the company’s World Water Day and White House Water Summit commitments. In addition to their work with Project WET, LS&Co. is also publicly disclosing their Water<Less™ techniques, which can save up to 96 percent of the water used in the denim finishing process. Since 2011, LS&Co. has saved more than 1 billion liters of water in its manufacturing, and the company believes that Water<Less™ innovations could save the apparel industry at least 50 billion liters of water by 2020 — enough to supply every family in New Orleans for a year. The LS&Co. commitments have been included in a report released by the White House about the summit, Commitments to Action on Building a Sustainable Water Future.
