How long have you been a WET coordinator? I started in March of 2007, so I’m in my eighth year.
What’s your favorite thing about doing WET workshops? Helping the participants work out how the activity can best be used in their class.
Give a quote from a recent workshop. “Everything new I learn helps build my confidence.” “Made more excited to teach about water.” “Renewed my love of Environmental education.”
Can you share a funny story related to WET activities? I give out post-its with the NJ WET logo, with my email and website on the e bottom. To get them, participants have to answer the random questions I ask throughout the day, like, "What is the page number of the last activity?" Before too long, if just say "OK" or "Well..." or "Next!", people start yelling out answers to the question they think I might ask, hoping to get post-its.
What is your favorite WET activity? Incredible Journey, I know it sound cliché but I am always amazed how involved people become and how much they learn about the water cycle. I also have them sing “Well of the Water” by Tom Chapin
Tell us about a promotion, grant award, press, or other recognition you’ve received in the last few months. I presented an hourlong version of my conference workshop, “Raising a Head of STEAM for Water Educating, Putting the A in STEM” at the New Jersey Science Convention. At the end a teacher came up and said, “You know you are the only person in the last two days that has mentioned arts and STEM. Thank you.”
Any life changes to share? Kids, marriage, new home, other? No, it has been a rather peaceful year for a change.
Something we don’t know about you. I really like Gloria Estefan’s album mi tierra.
