Cindy Etgen, Aquatic Resources Education Section Chief at Maryland Department of Natural Resources

Cindy Etgen

Aquatic Resources Education Section Chief

Meet Cindy:

How long have you been a WET coordinator? I have been the Maryland WET coordinator since 1996.

What’s your favorite thing about doing WET workshops? The enthusiasm of the educators once we start doing activities and working through the guide.

Give a quote from a recent workshop. "This workshop exceeded my expectations. I gained more content knowledge, learned/gained more interests, and am now aware of some current real world problems!"

Can you share a funny story related to WET activities? At one of my workshops, while pretending to be a hurricane one of my educators labeled herself with a sign as Hurricane Common Core, and then as Tornado NGSS.  She was a riot!

What is your favorite WET activity? Sum of the Parts - we are all part of the problem, but more importantly...together we are the solution!

Tell us about a promotion, grant award, press, or other recognition you’ve received in the last few months. I have been asked to be an adjunct professor at Towson University, and now for Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Any life changes to share? Kids, marriage, new home, other? On November 9th I will hit the 27 year mark of working for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Something we don’t know about you. I have been in every state in the U.S. except:  Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Alaska.

Interviewed in October 2014.
