About:

The Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission (LAWPC) was formed by mutual agreement between the City of Lewiston and Auburn Water District to protect Lake  Auburn; the source of drinking water for the second-largest population center in Maine.  The water districts hold a waiver from filtration due to the exceptional quality of water in the lake, no doubt a benefit of the nearly 80 percent- forested watershed.  The job of the LAWPC is to help people understand and protect watersheds, water quality, and their role therein.
